It seems like every week, a social network changes its layout and requires new dimensions for its profile photos, background canvas, and images shared on the network. Limitations for social images are a combination of dimensions, image size, and even the amount of text displayed within the image.
I would caution against uploading oversized images to social media sites. Each social media platform uses aggressive image compression that often blurs your images. If you can upload a great image and compress it with a service before uploading it, you’ll get much crisper results!

Facebook Image Sizes
On Facebook, your imagery should blend professionalism with approachability. For individuals, use a polished headshot that reflects your personality, while brands should feature a recognizable logo. Cover images are prime real estate to promote current initiatives, showcase your team, or reinforce brand values through lifestyle imagery. In posts, opt for photos or graphics that tell a story—behind-the-scenes glimpses, customer highlights, or value-driven messages resonate best. Maintain a consistent tone and style to build visual familiarity across your content.

Google Business Page
For Google Business Pages, imagery should focus on authenticity and trust. Use a clear, branded logo for instant recognition, and select a cover image that captures the essence of your physical space or services—such as storefronts, interiors, or team interactions. Prioritize real, unfiltered visuals that prospective customers might encounter in person. Product images, team portraits, and event snapshots convey credibility and a welcoming atmosphere.

Instagram Image Sizes
Instagram demands a cohesive, aesthetically driven brand presence. Profile images should reinforce identity at a glance, using either a consistent headshot or a simplified logo. Post content should follow a visual theme—through color palette, subject matter, or editing style—that aligns with your brand personality. Use Stories and Reels to share more candid, spontaneous moments that show the human side of your brand. Strong visual branding boosts recognition and engagement, especially when supported by thoughtful captions and hashtags.

LinkedIn visuals should reflect your professional identity and reinforce thought leadership. A clean, confident headshot creates immediate credibility, while the banner space is an opportunity to align with your role, industry, or brand—whether it’s showcasing events, client work, or values. When posting, favor graphics that support expertise—such as industry insights, company milestones, or behind-the-scenes looks at your team. Keep your visual tone consistent, refined, and relevant to your field.

Snapchat Image Sizes
Snapchat favors unpolished, real-time visuals that connect authentically with your audience. Profile branding should be instantly recognizable, but your Stories shape brand perception. Use playful, informal visuals that reflect spontaneity, like team moments, customer reactions, or product teasers. While maintaining some consistency in tone and personality, avoid overly produced content. Branded elements should feel native and entertaining, not promotional or forced.

On X, visuals should be bold, timely, and aligned with your brand’s tone. Profile images must clearly represent your personal or brand identity, and header images can support current messaging, promotions, or causes. When sharing visuals in tweets, use them to highlight commentary, drive conversation, or visually simplify complex ideas. Maintain a consistent visual style—whether that’s minimalist data visuals, high-contrast memes, or branded image cards—to strengthen recognition and reinforce your voice.
