The Downside of Using Artificial Intelligence for Your Business

With the rise of artificial intelligence – or AI – many small businesses are using this new technology for their digital marketing. No doubt you’ve heard about the various AI Chat tools, or maybe you’ve even tried it out. Honestly, we can see why you’d be tempted. You’re busy running the business and problem-solving, and AI is free, easily accessible, generates content in seconds, and is great for brainstorming ideas.

However, if your business is depending on AI to write its social media posts and blogs, tread carefully because we’re here to offer a word of warning. At Hashtag Creative, we are digital marketing professionals not a robot in sight- and we say that when it comes to social media posts and engagement, web copy, and blogs, you just can’t beat the human touch.

It’s time to explore the downside of AI…

Generic Content
Ugh. A pet peeve of ours is generic content. It’s boring, for starters, and doesn’t highlight what makes your business different from all those pesky competitors out there. It doesn’t resonate with your followers. It doesn’t showcase the exact products, services, and expertise that your business offers. Why? Well, AI tools like ChatGPT operate based on patterns and existing data, which can result in content that lacks originality and creativity.Boring!

Not Current
Using current information, data, and statistics in your social media is a great way for your business to highlight the latest industry trends, news, or market insights and demonstrate how your product or service meets a certain need.Ask AI for some current info or stats and you’ll be told “I’m unable to provide real-time data or statistics as my responses are based on a diverse range of sources and not real-time information. For the most recent and accurate statistics, I recommend checking official reports.”Not very helpful.

Limited
Imagine a friend saying “Sorry, you’ve used up your chats. You’ll need to upgrade to the pro version to ask me anything else.”
Because AI does…  Eh, rude!

Lack of Personality
AI-generated content lacks the human touch. That means that although AI can mimic language and generate text, it doesn’t have personality. It struggles to convey the unique voice and tone of your business. And when you think that social media is all about building relationships and connecting with followers on a personal level, you realize that…AI just can’t compete with humans.

Formal

AI tools are programmed to use formal language and tone by default. Not ideal for social media content that requires a more casual, conversational approach. Content that’s robotic or stiff simply fails to connect with your audience.

And that’s not who you are, right?
